Select high-altitude Menara vineyard in Israelís Upper Galilee, 2,500 feet above sea level, is the source of this singular Reserve Merlot.

Wine Advocate 88 points (Feb 2012)
The 2009 MERLOT RESERVE was aged for 14 months in 60% new French oak. This has been a pretty consistent bottling over the years, always pleasing to drink if not especially concentrated. I think they typically show better young and donít reward cellaring very much. This year, there is perhaps a bit more bite than on average, showing rather good structure with some grip on the finish, while the wine retains a sensual and sexy texture. The fruit is quite nice here in its youth, a bit sweet initially, perhaps also oak-tinged, but that integrates nicely and blends into the background with some extended aeration. It is bright, with ripe tannins and that velvety feel, plus just a touch of herbaceousness. This doesnít have any upside, but it is awfully good right now. If you plunge in, you might be even happier than the score would suggest. There were 3,000 cases produced. Drink now-2016. Recanatiís Reserve level wines have always offered some value for the region. With the debut of the 2009s, the winery has added some structure and a little more gravitas as well, making this a very nice lineup for a region that tends to be short on valuesóbut note that, due to their small production, some of the most interesting reserves now show some significant price spikes, taking them well out of the value range and into Recanatiís “special reserveĒ top of the line pricing. That said, 2009 easily looks like Recanatiís best vintage yet.”

Wine maker notes
After careful hand harvesting, the grapes are de-stemmed and left to soak for two days to fully extract their fruity, spicy character. A small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon is included to enhance depth and complexity. After a fermentation period of two weeks, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels where it matures for 18 months.

Food pairing
An outstanding accompaniment to grilled red meats, poultry, risottos and mushroom-based dishes. Serve slightly cooler than room temperature.
